WHQS Progress

First Choice’s response to the report, Progress in Delivering the Welsh Housing Quality Standard, published 13 January 2012, by the Auditor General for Wales.

First Choice Housing Association is Wales’ only association that solely provides homes for people with learning disabilities. First Choice has been committed to achieving the Welsh Housing Quality Standard (WHQS) since its introduction in 2002.

After implementing a comprehensive programme of works and allocating a budget to help meet the standard, First Choice is confident they will reach 100% compliance with WHQS by December 2012.

Andrew Mouncher, Maintenance Manager said “First Choice is committed to providing quality homes for people with disabilities. We ensure all of our properties meet the needs of our tenants and ensure they are maintained to a high standard. We face challenges over the coming year to meet WHQS but the Association is working hard to ensure we are 100% compliant by the end of December 2012.”

First Choice surveyed all properties in 2006 and developed a financial plan to deliver a programme of works required to meet WHQS. Further comprehensive compliance surveys were carried out on all properties in 2011 to double check compliance and ensure final work is programmed to be completed by December 2012.
